The initial activities of the Holding
began at the start of the fifties. It was that time when Mazhar Zorlu stepped on to the
stage to perform his services in the field of construction business. He took on and
successfully completed many civil and public projects such as apartment blocks, bridges
and highways. In the late fifties, he made a debut in the field of industry with a focus
on plastics related production. At that time, let alone the local manufacturing of raw
materials necessary for the production of plastics, even the importation of such
essentials was a nightmare. In 1959 however, the restraints over imports were somewhat
relieved and thus establishing Ege Yildiz A.S. would later concentrate on manufacturing
plastic kitchen ware, came into the agenda. Ege Yildiz started by manufacturing various
pipes for the building and agro industries. In line with modernization and technological
developments, Ege Plast A.S was formed and Ege Yildiz evolved into being an
organization to market the products manufactured by Ege Plast.
Up until the early eighties, the Group continued with its investments by way of setting up
new organizations in the field of plastics industry and the related sectors involving
machinery and equipment for the mentioned line of business. In the year 1996, the
formation of Mazhar Zorlu Holding was completed and the Group is now getting prepared for
the new millennium by striving for further efficiency, making use of past experiences.
Mazhar Zorlu Holding is the main owner of three organizations, shares of which are
publicly quoted in the Istanbul Stock Exchange. It works with a network of over 2000
dealers and employs over 1500 people. The holding is involved in plastics, textiles,
banking, insurance, services, paper and printing businesses.
67 percent out of total investments of Mazhar Zorlu Holding is based on plastics industry.
This provides the group with a substantial share in the Turkish market.
The holding holds 7th. place in Europe in terms of manufacturing capacity and 5
th. in terms of product range.
Ege Plast; the subsidiary company of Mazhar Zorlu Holding hold 25% of
Turkish plastic pipemarket share.
The activities of the Holding are based on plastics industry. With this in mind, the
medium and long term strategies of the Group is focused on increasing its market share,
also its profitability and to develop a corporate culture which will yield the way to
globalization. The Group is striving to develop strategic co-operations with various
institutions that will result in manufacturing products of higher added value.
Mazhar Zorlu Holding is exporting to Mid East Turkish countries; to
Asian, European and African countries. |
